Tesco has spoken out following a surge in demand from online shoppers for their Christmas delivery slots. The supermarket chain released the delivery slots for groceries at 7am this morning (Friday, November 13) on its website, and swiftly activated a 'virtual queueing system' to manage the high demand from customers.

New and existing Asda, Co-op, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Waitrose shoppers can all sign up for Christmas slots. When you can place bookings varies widely, although most slots are now available. A spokesperson for Tesco told HELLO!: 'We have been working hard to increase the capacity of our online delivery service to help more customers gain access to this service when they need it.'

Tesco's CEO Dave Lewis said: 'On Thursday, we were given an initial list of 110,000 clinically and socially isolated people by the Government. From these, we were able to match 75,000 existing customers and we’ve already contacted them to let them know we’re making home delivery slots immediately available to them. As we receive more data from Government, we’ll make even more slots available.'

What if I don't have a Tesco account but am a vulnerable person?

If you don't currently have an account with Tesco but have received a letter from the NHS because you're classified as clinically vulnerable, you can create an account on their website or call Tesco on 0800 917 7359. The store can then check if you are on the government's list.

Tesco’s Christmas delivery slots opened on 13 November for people on its delivery saver scheme, and are now available to everyone.

Deliveries cost between £4.50 and £5.50, or you can choose to click and collect for £1.50.

There is a £4 surcharge for deliveries under £40 and click and collect orders worth less than £25.

Asda

Asda’s delivery slots are now online and available to book.

Some dates and times are fully booked, depending on your location, but if this is the case you should still be able to select the click and collect option.

Delivery costs between £3 and £5.50, depending on when you want your order to come.

There is a £3 surcharge for delivery orders of less than £40 and click and collect orders of less than £25.

Morrisons

Morrisons’ Christmas delivery slots opened on 25 November, and you can book for any date from 20-24 December, subject to availability.

Delivery costs between £2 and £7, depending on when you want your food to arrive.

Amazon Prime customers can get free delivery of they order their Morrisons shop through Amazon’s site.
